Baptism

And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Acts 22:16

Baptism is an outward sign of the inward work of regeneration that God has done in our hearts.

It is also a public expression of our faith in Jesus Christ. It is something that Jesus exemplified for us, and is a way for us to proclaim our commitment to the Lord.

Why should I be baptized?

It’s a public declaration of your new identity in Christ.

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
 — Romans 6:4

Jesus commanded it.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
 — Matthew 28:19 – 20

Jesus set the example for us.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.
 — Matthew 3:13

Who should be baptized?

Peter told those wanting to be saved:

Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
 — Acts 2:38

If you have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are ready to be baptized!

At Athey, we do baptisms throughout the year. Our church family likes to celebrate alongside those who are choosing to follow Jesus’ command to be baptized.
