The Gospels
The gospels are the “Good News” of Jesus Christ.
In a Nutshell
- We are all sinners.
- The consequence of our sin is eternal separation from God.
- God loves us so much He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sin.
- If we believe and confess this, we are saved.
- For the rest of our time on Earth, God wants to reveal Himself to us – this happens by talking to Him (prayer), studying His Word (the Bible), and going through life with other believers (fellowship).
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The gospels are the first four books of the New Testament. Each gospel is attributed to a traditional author: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The gospels tell the story of the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Each gospel has a unique perspective and style, but they also share many similarities. All four gospels include accounts of Jesus’ birth, baptism, teachings, miracles, crucifixion, and resurrection. However, they also have distinct emphases and themes:
- Matthew presents Jesus as the fulfillment of Jewish prophecy, emphasizing His teaching and the importance of following His commandments.
- Mark focuses on Jesus’ actions and miracles, emphasizing His divine power and the importance of faith.
- Luke highlights Jesus’ compassion for the poor, marginalized, and outcast and shows He is the Savior of all people.
- John emphasizes Jesus’ divinity and His close relationship with God the Father and focuses on the spiritual significance of Jesus’ life and teachings.
Whether you are a lifelong Christian or new to the faith, we invite you to join as we study the Bible verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, book-by-book through the gospels. We believe studying this way gives an in-depth insight into the context, cohesive message, and overall themes and helps us to avoid taking verses out of context. By studying the Bible in its entirety, we can better apply its teachings to our lives, share it with others, and develop a deep understanding of God’s Word and the “Good News” Jesus gave us!
