And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Acts 22:16

What is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward sign of the inward work of regeneration that God has done in our hearts and a public expression of our faith in Jesus Christ. It is something that Jesus exemplified for us, and is a way for us to proclaim our commitment to the Lord.

Why should I be baptized?

Because it’s a public declaration of our new identity in Christ

“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Romans 6:4

Because Jesus commanded it

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” — Matthew 28:19-20

Because Jesus set the example for us

“Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.” — Matthew 3:13

Who should be baptized?

In Acts 2:38 Peter told those wanting to be saved “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

If you have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are ready to be baptized!

At Athey, we do baptisms several times each year. Our church family likes to celebrate alongside those who are choosing to follow Jesus’ command to be baptized. If you are interested in attending or being baptized in the future you can check our EVENTS PAGE to see if we have a baptism scheduled in the near future.
